At InfoComm 06, early attendees get the most from their show experience with a range of hands-on, in-depth technical, design, and sales instruction courses taught by top AV industry experts.
Continuing a 35-year AV industry tradition, the Institute for Professional Development offers seven renowned three-day courses. This is your chance to start off your InfoComm week with basic and intermediate professional and career-building knowledge in small-scale, discussion-oriented courses.
Design School Level 1: Principles of Applied AV Design (Basic) Scott Wills, CTS-D, CTS-I, of InfoComm International explores design principles for visual display, audio, and control systems. Sold out in 2005, this course will start you on your way toward specialized certification in Design (CTS-D). Learn the roles and responsibilities of all those involved in the design process from start to finish, how to manage a project, and the codes and regulations for AV design.
Design School Level 2: Facilities Design (Intermediate) Joe Bocchiaro, III, Ph.D., CTS-D, CTS-I, of InfoComm International teaches part two of the Design School course. This three-day session focuses on the environment, ergonomics, and infrastructure of the presentation space. The session covers presentation environments, building structure, acoustics, lighting, mechanical systems, ergonomics, and infrastructure. You'll integrate the design decisions of Level 1 into construction drawings and specifications.
Certification Prep Course (Basic) Succeeding means preparing for what's in store, and for those wanting to receive your general Certified Technology Specialist, this course offers the perfect opportunity for you to set your sights high. Tom Kehr, CTS-D, of InfoComm helps candidates prepare for InfoComm's general Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) exam through exercises designed to clarify key concepts from InfoComm International's Essentials of the AV Industry online course. At the end of the three-day program, candidates may take a written CTS exam (you'll need to register for the CTS exam separately). Candidates may also take the exam throughout the week during show hours.
Project Management: Competencies and Structure (Basic) Brad Malone, PMP, of Twin Star Consulting, addresses specific audiovisual project management needs with practical knowledge and hands-on exercises. In this course, you'll develop a framework to integrate and apply the nine areas of the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) during each phase of a project's life cycle. Through utilization of audiovisual case studies and scenarios, you see how quality project management can improve your team communication and bottom line.
Professional Sales Skills for AV Systems & Equipment (Basic) If you want to learn about more sales skills, Bill Sharer, CTS, of Exxel Management has you covered. He addresses sales, account management, and communication skills, with a few technical elements in this two-thirds classroom and one-third hands-on practical application with professional coaching and critique. You will learn how to write bulletproof proposals, manage high-level relationships and multiple buying influences, reduce price resistance and competitive issues, climb higher in the organization where the easier sales are, manage your sales pipeline, and, finally, how to avoid problems after the sale.
Lighting for Videoconference and Presentation Spaces (Basic) Taught by Jim Yorgey, PE, LC, of Lutron and Jim Benya, PE, LC, FIES, of Benya Lighting Design, you'll learn how to design basic lighting systems for Video Teleconference (VTC) and AV presentation spaces such as board rooms, conference rooms, and training rooms. You'll learn proven lighting design solutions for VTC spaces and AV presentation spaces through examples of good and bad lighting. This course includes discussion about costs, codes, ceiling systems, and other practical considerations.
Videoconferencing: Applications, Technology and Trends (Intermediate) Scott Sharer, CTS, BA, MFA, of Communication Design Group and Jim Smith, CVE, CTS, of Polycom will appeal to your senses with this course. The goal of the course is to hear, see, and touch actual solutions for videoconference communications within the organizational enterprise. But be prepared; this is a fast-paced and lively in-class presentation that includes presentations given by the attendees. Augmented by dial-up videoconference connection with selected industry experts, you'll be inline to learn the latest trends of videoconference communications and integration.
