AJA Video Systems Ki Pro
Jun 16, 2009 12:00 PM, By Dan Ochiva
Solid-state, flash RAM-based systems are catching on for location recording. But until recently, the products have been pricey, reflecting the cost of the high-speed RAM needed to pull off uncompressed and slightly compressed recording in the field.
AJA, known more for its capture cards and converters, jumps into this fast-growing market with the Ki Pro, a self-contained Apple ProRes 422 field recorder. It connects to digital cameras via SDI or HDMI and to any analog camera with its multiple input options. The deck records to removable 34mm ExpressCards, hard drives, or solid-state disks. During recording, the Ki Pro converts in realtime from SD to HD, or 720 to or from 1080, in full 10-bit quality.
