LEDs show their flexible nature.
Measures just 1/8in. tall and less than 3/8in. wide. Price: $240 (16ft. length, warm white, standard output)
Although on-camera lighting units are most familiar to anyone shopping for a new-style light, LED technology improvements are taking the solid-state device into new, more imaginative areas of application.
LiteGear's LiteRibbon is a linear array of low-profile, wide-angle LEDs on a flexible, adhesive-backed material. It's sold in 16ft. lengths, and the material can be cut into pieces as small as three LED bulbs, which allows placement almost anywhere within a scene, even in an actor's costume.
LiteGear's LiteDimmer delivers flicker-free operation and control of a LiteRibbon regardless of camera speed, shutter angle, or ramping, according to the company. You'll still need a power supply, although the strips can use 12V DC power from various sources, including batteries and automobile adapters. Because the backing is flexible, the light can be used in concave or convex positions, bending up to a 1in. radius.
