Full 64-Bit Tracking for the Mac

More apps are finishing their move to full 64-bit operation. This offers access to much more memory, which is necessary with the shift to dual quad-core processors.

In January, Andersson Technologies said it moved SynthEyes — its match-moving app — to Apple's 64-bit OS X. According to the company — which started supporting 64-bit Windows back in 2005 — the AMD/Intel 64-bit instruction sets provide about a 10 percent boost in performance, but the main advantage is the ability to address more than 4GB of RAM.

SynthEyes' feature set includes tracking, stabilization, motion capture, and mesh building. The 64-bit version enables enough capacity to store larger HD and film shots, as well as the volumes of tracking data they produce. The result is quick access during supervised tracking, post-solve fine tuning, track verification, and RAM-based playback.
