With today's more powerful hardware, added functionality comes via new software. Digital Rapids CarbonHD 1.0 software, for example, runs on the company's DRC-5500 capture hardware, adding playout capabilities and DDR functionality such as SD/HD editing. Features include ingest HD or SD-SDI video and embedded SDI audio or AES audio, on-the-fly format conversion during ingest from any format to any format (e.g., 1080i to 720p), and frame-accurate deck capture or crash recording.
