Huge Graphics Memory
Announced late last year, PNY now offers delivery on Nvidia's new top-of-the-line Quadro series. The cards use the latest GT200 GPU, which also turns up in the Quadro CX (recently introduced as optimized specifically for Adobe's Creative Suite 4).
The cards keep Nvidia competitive with the reinvigorated ATI FirePro line, which bested prior top Quadro cards. The pricier ($3,500 list) FX 5800 with an industry-topping 4GB of RAM offers the GPU's full set of 240 shaders and a higher bandwidth. At that price point, however, it probably makes most sense for less-price-sensitive oil prospecting and high-end CAD users. The FX 4800 ($1,700 list) with 1.5GB of RAM will be fine for anyone wanting a top graphics card, although ATI's FirePro V8700 is considered on par by a couple of reviewers at a lower tab ($1,500 list).
