Anyone who has loaded lots of files from CDs or DVDs knows optical drives aren't the speediest devices. So when you have a chance to upgrade a drive at a not very high tab, it's worth your while to investigate. Other World Computing (OWC) recently announced deals on internal and external SuperDrive DVD and CD reader/writer options for legacy to current Intel-based Apple computers. The upgrades feature faster read/write DVD, dual-layer DVD, and CD burn speeds up to 20X for DVDs and 48X for CDs.
