Those wall-size full-year planning calendars have an ideal use—plotting out the national and international trade shows that will clamor for the AV professional’s attention in the coming year. Industry events will truly span the globe in 2006, offering coverage from the most specialized niches to the broadest spectra of audio, video, and entertainment technologies.

Among the mainstay events for the professional AV sector are:
NSCA’s System's Integration Expo on March 16-18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. About 11,000 people turned out for the show in 2004. NSCA says 74 percent of its attendees classify themselves as systems integrators and 61 percent say their principal type of business is corporate projects. The 2005 show will feature a reprise of the Digital Signage Pavilion, sponsored by ActiveLight, that debuted in 2004.

April will bring the largest of the U.S.-based shows, NAB’s annual gathering in Las Vegas. Although its coverage focuses mainly on radio and television broadcasting, NAB has offered major displays of projection, presentation, pro audio, and similar technologies in recent years. The association expects more than 100,000 people to tour the Las Vegas Convention Center on April 24-27.

InfoComm International returns to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., on June 7-9 (conference sessions begin on June 3). For 2006, the sponsors are projecting added emphasis on audio topics, including expanded seminars, demo rooms, and other attractions, along with a repeat of the Lighting and Sound Pavilion presented by InfoComm International in cooperation with Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA) Media. Last year’s event in Las Vegas drew more than 26,000 attendees and 725 exhibitors.

In late summer, CEDIA time will roll around. Its annual expo will take place in Denver on Sept. 14-17. CEDIA has added a fourth expo day to accommodate demand. The association anticipates attendance in the neighborhood of 30,000, with more than 500 exhibitors.

Some industry pros could find themselves in Vegas yet again in October when LDI comes to the convention center on Oct. 16-22. Entertainment Technology Week incorporates a variety of special events appealing to lighting, theatrical, sound, video, and related technologies.

Overseas, venues will also call to American integrators, notably the immense international CeBIT consumer electronics event in Hannover, Germany, on March 9-15. CeBIT’s displays cover the waterfront and include plenty that falls outside the pro AV orbit, but the big show also includes the latest in video display, audio, and other specialties.

Similarly, Cologne, Germany, is home base for Photokina, the international professional photo and imaging trade fair, which takes place Sept. 26-Oct. 1.

InfoComm has also been reaching out to world markets in recent years through a partnership with NSCA and CEDIA. In 2006, this team will present three Integrated Systems (IS) events: IS Europe in Brussels, Belgium, on Feb. 1-3, IS China in Shanghai on April 12-14, and IS India in New Delhi on Nov. 1-3.
