As an addition to its successful L-series of products, Alcons introduces the LR16B high-output bass system for permanent and portable applications. It is designed as a low-frequency extension to the LR16 line-array speaker module, in both flown and stacked configurations, and has one of the highest efficiency-to-weight/size ratios in the industry.

The LR16B high-output bass system is designed as a low-frequency extension to the LR16 line-array speaker module, in both flown and stacked configurations.

The main focus with the development of the LR16B was to get the highest efficiency possible within the weight/size parameters set by the line-array application. A flown application means the system is placed in “full-space” conditions, which brings a substantial reduction (-3dB) of output versus a “half-space” stacked application.

In order to achieve a higher efficiency than the conventional front-loading arrangement, the long-excursion 15in. drivers are double-vented and double-tuned in a bandpass loading configuration. The resulting true 102dB (1W/1m, full-bandwidth 46Hz-200Hz) efficiency, in combination with the 3200W power handling, brings a 137dB peak SPL from a very compact cabinet.

As the LR16B is primarily designed to be used in flown applications, special attention has also been paid to the weight of the system. The cabinet is made of 0.6in.-thick birch wood and braced for a lightweight yet rigid construction. The drivers are two long-excursion 15in. woofers with Neodymium magnet structures and low power-compression design.

The integrated heavy-duty flying system also featured in the LR16 doesn’t have any separate/loose parts and is certified to an unusually high safety rating: 1,000lb. single-point, safety ratio 10:1. In stacked configuration, the system's two-side usable flying hardware forms a stable foundation for LR16 arrays.

The LR16B is included in the latest version of Alcons Ribbon Calculator (ARC) prediction software.

The combination of the high acoustic output, the lightweight cabinet, and the very high WorkingLoadLimit of the flying system makes the LR16B the perfect match with the LR16 for a compact, high-output, full-range line array.

The Signal Integrity Sensing pre-wiring ensures complete cable/connector compensation between the LR16B and recommended ALC amplified controller, for very tight and accurate bass response (damping factor 10.000).

Driven by the ALC, the LR16B delivers maximum sound quality and output power with dedicated and inaudible (power and excursion) protection (SpeakerDriveProcessing circuit). Future options of the SDP circuit within the ALC include Cardioid bass-response from multiple LR16B units.

The LR16B comes complete with flying frames, Durotect scratch-resistant coating, four handles, sliding/stacking strips, and optional wheel dolly and soft cover, and is backed by a limited six-year warranty.
