Global Display Solutions (GDS) has opened an innovative outdoor test facility in Cornedo, Italy. This facility will provide GDS with the capacity to rigorously test its outdoor displays in real environmental conditions, offering its customers total quality assurance that the displays can endure all weather conditions. The opening of this facility demonstrates GDS’ dedication to consolidating its position as a provider of outdoor displays.
This unique new facility allows GDS to track the actual behavior of the monitor once it has been installed in the field. The displays tested in the new facility are all connected through an intranet system, which allows GDS to collect and compare its data. All temperature, humidity, and sun power radiation values are recorded into a server computer. A complicated evaluation of this data allows GDS to map the most reliable thermal cooling system for each display and application. This test also enables GDS to verify the laboratory simulation tests conducted following manufacturing.
By testing its displays in real environmental conditions, as opposed to imitated surroundings, GDS can detect any foreseeable problems prior to installation. This unique guarantee provides customers with complete confidence in GDS’ displays and minimizes the chances of any downtime within the field. GDS supplies the displays for a large number of the world’s ATM machines, as well as providing large displays for airports and train stations, all applications that will benefit from this new testing facility.
The new outdoor facility will be used to test the ruggedness of all GDS’ displays that can be used for outdoor applications, including its touchscreen LCDs, Optically Enhanced TFTs, and the innovative Mitra displays. Tests conducted within the facility will assess features such as sunlight readability, sunlight thermal loading, UV testing, and a variety of cold temperature aspects. This state-of-the-art facility is located next to GDS’ production site, allowing visiting customers the opportunity to see their products being tested.
Marco Cohen, marketing manager at GDS, comments: “GDS is recognized within the industry as the global leader in outdoor displays, and this is a position that we pride ourselves on. The introduction of this facility is testament to this fact and shows our commitment in providing our customers with the very best service possible. As our displays are designed to be installed in very demanding conditions, such as train station platforms, we felt that the only way to offer customers total assurance is to test the displays in actual conditions; after all, simulated conditions are just not the same!”
