JBL Professional has announced that David Scheirman has been appointed as its vice president of tour sound, while Ted Leamy has been named vice president of installed sound. The appointments are effective immediately and are a reflection of Scheirman’s and Leamy’s respective efforts toward the increased prominence and unmatched quality of JBL’s professional loudspeakers.

David Scheirman has been with the company since 1997. “Leading product development efforts, including the worldwide success of Vertec, and creating the supporting infrastructure to address the needs of tour sound professionals has been my primary role,” Scheirman says. “Now, with the introduction of self-powered, integrated systems represented by the Vertec DP Series with DrivePack technology and HiQnet networking solutions, as vice president of tour sound I will be driving JBL and the Harman Professional group to offer more flexible and useful tools for a wider range of professional system users.”

Prior to joining JBL Professional, David Scheirman was the founder and owner of Concert Sound Consultants and held positions with IED (Innovative Electronic Designs) and MediaLink Technologies. As a touring sound professional from 1975 to 1993, he operated, installed, and/or designed event sound systems for nearly 3,000 stadium, arena, auditorium, and theater shows worldwide, including work with artists like Linda Ronstadt and George Benson, and organizations such as the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.

Since joining JBL Professional in 2000, Ted Leamy has seen significant changes in installed sound. “The world of installed sound is more demanding than ever, requiring technology that was before only thought of as live sound technology,” he says. “The overall expectation of patrons in today’s house of worship, theater, and sports facilities is higher than ever as far as the expectation to have full-bandwidth, professional-quality sound. This elevation of expectations has been driven by our everyday experiences, whether it’s sound in home theater [or] automobiles.”

From 1978 to 2000, Leamy held a number of positions at Electrotec Productions, a large tour sound reinforcement company. From his entry-level position through his later positions of vice president and managing director, Leamy worked with and managed all levels of sound reinforcement and tour sound. Much of his tenure was spent on the road working with hundreds of headlining acts including Rod Stewart, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Rush, and Def Leppard. This wealth of experience and extensive sound reinforcement background allow Leamy to add a unique perspective to JBL Professional.

“As a company with a history of developing innovative products for sound reinforcement professionals, JBL values the real-world experience that Ted and David bring to our business,” John Carpanini, president of JBL Professional, says. “I am very pleased to not only announce these appointments, but to welcome Ted and David to their new roles on JBL’s executive staff.”
