Topping off a new GPU
The top graphics card makers are now delivering a new generation of cards spec'd for computers using the speedy PCI Express bus, which debuted this past June. But what about users happily working away on the millions of AGP-based workstations still out there?
ATI tackles that with its FireGL X3-256, which debuted at last month's Siggraph show. The specs for this top-of-the-line 8X AGP card include 256MB of GDDR3 memory, 12 pixel pipelines, six vertex engines, stereo 3D, dual DVI, and dual-link capabilities. Other features include support for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux (Red Hat and Suse), a three-year warranty, and unlimited direct access to a dedicated workstation tech support team. www.ati.com/firegl
