Capping a significant growth year, 3dBob Productions of Burbank, California, was awarded five Omni Intermedia Awards in late 2001, honoring the computer animation company’s achievements in character animation and visual effects.
The awards, which recognize outstanding production, design and content in a variety of fields, were chosen by industry peers as an example of technical and visual excellence. The Fall 2001 competition saw over 500 entries reviewed by 31 judges.
The facility, helmed by partners Bob Arvin and Jake Aguas, received a Gold Omni – the highest honor – for its CGI work on the season finale storm sequence of the highly rated TV series “JAG.” Other winning entries included 3dBob’s VFX work on the season finale of the sci-fi show “Roswell,” which featured an exploding mountaintop and alien spaceship (Bronze award), and an all-CGI sequence showcasing virtual reality characters and environments (Bronze award).
“Our team of animators and producers gave tremendous effort to produce their absolute best work. These awards are a tribute to their effort,” said Aguas, 3dBob’s executive vice president and managing partner. “We have an exceptionally talented team of artists.”
The company, now in production on its first 3D photo-realistic movie, also garnered two Silver awards for excellence in character animation for its 3D Bill Cosby commercial spots. The spots, which aired on the PAX Network in 2000, earned the animation studio three Telly Awards earlier in 2001.
