Mar 25, 2002 12:00 PM
Michael Toutonghi, vice president, Microsoft eHome Division will explore how universal plug and play will revolutionize home computing and entertainment at the "Enhanced TV, Interactive TV and Broadband - Welcome to the Future" Super Session, April 9 at NAB2002.
Toutonghi will examine the new technologies coming to market that will enable home networking and connectivity throughout the home. He'll discuss how the IEEE's 1394 standard enables a single plug-and-play connection for connecting devices to PCs and how it will facilitate consumer adoption of home networking. He will map out sample home network configurations that will combine and distribute rich multimedia services along with telephony, gaming, web access, information utility, and remote device control to every room in the home.
Toutonghi leads Microsoft's eHome Division, a newly developed group within Microsoft whose mission is to extend the PC's capabilities to deliver simple and affordable connected home experiences to everyday consumers. Since joining Microsoft in 1992, Toutonghi has held a number of positions in the development of key Microsoft innovations. He helped conceive, engineer and manage the Microsoft(r) .NET Developer platform and oversaw key components for the Windows(r) 95 operating system and Internet Explorer 3.0 and 4.0. Before joining Microsoft, Toutonghi held positions at Gibson Research Corp. and SOTA Technology.
Following Toutonghi's address, a panel of leading technology executives will discuss key industry issues. Topics will include the future of interactive television, the promise of ubiquitous broadband roll-out, and the revenue-generating potential of interactive content both in the domestic and international market.
NAB2002 takes place April 6-11 in Las Vegas (exhibits open April 8). It is the world's largest trade event covering the convergence of broadcasting, multimedia and the Internet, audio and video communications, and telecommunications.
