Convergence Talent Will Travel

New York, N.Y.--Convergence announced the company's plans to provide editing services onsite to the advertising/production world through a portable, self-contained editing work station.
"I believe the Convergence portable editing kit is the way of the future, available for us now--not a minute too soon," says Peter Friedman, EVP/director of broadcast production, McCann-Erickson.
Due to the current ad-biz economy, many agency creatives find themselves with increasingly demanding workloads. This means less time to travel to the editor's studio in order to fine tune their latest creation. Traditionally, editorial companies have adapted to these circumstances by sending out work cassettes or posting the works-in-progress on ftp sites for the agency to download and comment on. As productive and useful as these technologies can be, they're still not nearly as efficient as sitting in a room with the editor where dozens of changes can be executed and revised on the spot.
"But if the clients can't afford to leave the agency ... what if the editor could come to them, set up a functional workstation in five minutes and spend that very efficient cutting-room time right in their office or in a conference room down the hall?" asks Chip Smith, editor, Convergence.
Peter Friedman continues, "In today's world of tight schedules, overworked teams, and layers of approvals needed on most jobs, the portable editing system solves so many of our logistical problems. This portable system could easily make the difference between making a tight airdate or not."
Editors at Convergence now make this convenience available to their clients. The agency housecall service is an extension of the company's ongoing portable working model where Convergence editors often use their laptops for the rough-cut portion of a job before a full-blown editing suite is required. This allows the creative juices to flow untethered, whether they're in their private offices or in the park across the street.
The addition of a quality monitor and speakers makes this same creative convenience viable for the agencies. Work done remotely is then seamlessly ported to the client-friendly cutting rooms of the Convergence home base in Chelsea where the editors can exercise their muscles on more powerful machines.
"Of course, the service is a double-edged sword," says Oren Sarch, editor, Convergence. "Our clients love to come to our beautiful high-tech facility for many reasons--including our comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and our outstanding client services. But if they absolutely can't come by, they will still have the opportunity to work with our great editors in the most creative and time-efficient manner possible--and still meet the demands of those aspects of their work that require them to remain in their offices."
