HPA Scholarship Awards - Call for Applications

The Hollywood Post Alliance announced that the application period for the 2005 Awards of the J. Michel Brinkman Scholarship & Mentoring Fund is now open. Applications are due on Oct. 18, 2005.

The program, which promotes scholarship in the art and science of postproduction, provides financial scholarships, internships, mentoring opportunities, tours, access to technology and HPA educational events, and a broad range of diverse educational opportunities to extend the recipient’s experience beyond the traditional classroom. Winners will be announced Nov. 17, 2005.

Any resident of Southern California who is either an undergraduate student or working in post or the entertainment industry and looking to advance his/her career or begin a career in post production is encouraged to apply. The 2005 Awards include a range of opportunities and technologies, including:

  • A scholarship award of up to $1,000
  • Avid Xpress Pro film and video editing for MAC and PC systems
  • Sony Vegas 6 desktop editing software
  • Smartsound Sonicfire Pro soundtrack creation software (including Infinite Search Maestro)
  • Registration to the 2006 HPA Technology Retreat
  • Registration to HPA Summer School 2006

The J. Michael Brinkman Scholarship Fund was launched at the 2003 HPA Technology retreat with the first year applications being taken in 2004. Lenin Valladares of Los Angeles City College was the 2004 recipient in the Editing category for which he received an Apple Final Cut Studio. The HPA Education Committee administers the fund and promotes other educational development opportunities for new as well as long-term members of the Hollywood entertainment community.

“The HPA is committed to advancing our existing talent and grooming the next generation of post professionals,“ said Kathleen Milnes, president and CEO of the Entertainment Economy Institute and chair of the HPA Education Committee. “We are excited to offer these expanded opportunities to both the postproduction and education communities.“
