Agoura Hills, Calif.-–Huge Systems, Inc., a leading storage solutions provider for the content creation, broadcast, and delivery markets, has announced that it’s Huge MediaVault U320R Max and U320RX Dual Max RAID storage arrays have been certified as compatible with Media 100 HD, which began shipping on Dec. 14. Media 100 HD is the only complete Mac-based editing system that enables mixing of HD and SD media in the same timeline.
The Huge Systems MediaVault U320R and U320RX storage arrays are widely used for a variety of high-bandwidth applications including SD and HDTV, uncompressed broadcast video storage, content creation, medical imaging, and government/military applications. The MediaVault U320R Max and U320RX Dual Max offer users an array of features and scalable storage capacities designed to maximize performance and reliability at every level. These features include Real Time RAID (RTR), designed to reconstruct data on the fly, a High Definition Turbo (HDT) mode to ensure 200MBps data rate throughput (per channel), and a soft failover capability that reconstructs and repairs marginal data automatically.
Compatibility with Media 100 HD will allow Media 100 users to reap the benefits of a powerful, secure and scalable storage solution that fully meets the requirements of High Definition (HD) video content. The Media 100 HD allows users to mix SD and HD media, 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio media, uncompressed and compressed clips, M-JPEG, DV, animation and other QuickTime codecs, and analog and digital video in the same timeline-–in realtime. Supporting both digital and analog video I/O, Media 100 HD is the first integrated solution that bridges the gap between a High Definition future and a Betacam past.
“The release of Media 100 HD is very exciting for professional Mac-based editors, and compatibility with the Huge MediaVaultTM U320R and RX arrays is aligned with our mission to provide our customers with a range of the best, most flexible options available for building out their workflow pipeline,” states Mike Savello, vice president of sales and marketing for Media 100. “Support for Huge Systems makes available a powerful and compact storage solution optimized for working with uncompressed HD and SD content for our users in advertising, broadcast, postproduction and content creation markets.”
The traditional Huge MediaVault U320R, or rackmounted U320RX, may each be configured in RAID 0 (performance) or RAID 3 (protected) operation. The U320R Max, with a small footprint measuring 6”x11”x12”, offers capacities of up to 2,000GB and is available in 4 configurations, each providing at least 600GB of removable storage.
Slightly larger than the original U-320R, the MediaVault U-320RX Dual Max is available as an attractively designed 4-U rackmounted unit or free standing tower. The MediaVault U-320RX Dual Max supports two Ultra320 SCSI channels with 10 removable disk drives. Scalable storage up to 4TB per array and the ability to daisy chain up to four Dual Max arrays makes available up to 16TB of total storage.
“Huge Systems looks forward to supporting Media 100 HD users with our U320R and RX products,” concurs Mike Anderson, CTO of Huge Systems. “The continued HD convergence, combined with the availability of an array of attractively priced and robustly featured products like Media 100 HD make the need for complementary storage apparent. Huge Systems is committed to developing innovative RAID storage that integrates with products from leading manufacturers like Media 100. We hope that Media 100 HD users will turn to Huge Systems for their storage needs for a variety of applications.”
