Teranex, a division of Silicon Optix and leader in providing high-performance solutions for the broadcast and postproduction market, announced it will be showing two new hardware platforms at the 2005 IBC show in Amsterdam. The first new platform, called the Teranex Mini, is a portable, low cost DTV format converter that brings the quality of the postproduction-level Teranex solultions to the mass market with a palm sized “use anywhere” package. The Teranex Mini can be used as a standalone portable DTV format converter, or three Minis can be rack-mounted on a 1RU shelf.

The second new platform, the XMR is a cost reduced companion to the existing XM modular platform. The XMR fits in the same Thomson Kameleon chassis as the original XM and uses the same Newton control panel, SNMP, and web control infrastructures. Teranex’s newest modular product is not a replacement for the current XM module, but rather an alternative for budget conscious customers.

Both of these new hardware platforms are based on the new Silicon Optix Realta HQV chip, the award winning video processor from Teranex’s parent company. “The Realta HQV chip was developed over the past 3 years at a cost of $30 Million with the goal of bringing the power of the Teranex platform to a single chip," says Jed Deame, co-founder and general manager of Teranex. “This level of price/performance is unmatched anywhere in the industry, and probably will be for some time.”

The Teranex Mini and XMR provide performance approaching that of Teranex’s much larger box and blade-level platforms at a fraction of the cost. Thanks to the performance and integration of the Realta HQV chip, Teranex is now able to meet entry level price points while still reaching the level of quality Teranex customers have come to expect.

New features in XMR include HD side conversions (1080i to and from 720p at both 50Hz and 60Hz) and animated logo insertion. Additional features include closed caption conversion, audio processing and timecode conversion. XMR is also available in a low-latency version for time sensitive applications.

“I am pleased that we are finally able to answer our customers’ requests to bring Teranex quality to entry-level applications,” continues Deame. “We can now offer solutions at various price points to address every possible conversion application.”

Teranex’s fully programmable, trillions-of-operations-per-second video processing systems have been adopted by thousands of the most quality conscious broadcasters and post-production houses worldwide.

The Teranex Mini and XMR Module will be shipping worldwide in the October/November timeframe.
