SANTA CLARA, CA—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, has executed on the Company’s strategy to deliver PCI Express technology in lock-step with Intel, with a full line of graphics processing units (GPUs) ready to support the Intel 925X and 915 G/P Express Chipsets.
PCI Express is the next revolution in I/O interconnect standard that NVIDIA will deploy as the next step in delivering the bandwidth and features required for high-resolution graphics, games, and other graphically-intensive applications.
“Our PCI Express solutions have proven themselves time and time again in testing done by Intel and our many system builder partners,” said Dan Vivoli, executive vice president of marketing at NVIDIA. “By working closely with Intel, NVIDIA has delivered a complete family of PCI Express solutions that many consider the most stable in the industry.”
Today’s launch is the culmination of cooperative efforts between NVIDIA and Intel that included the planning of the new I/O interconnect standard; cooperative implementation, testing and troubleshooting of the new standard; qualification of PCI Express solutions; and NVIDIA supplying the PCI Express graphics cards to Intel for sales, marketing, and promotion of the new bus initiative.
“By working hand-in-hand with companies like NVIDIA, Intel is delivering a revolutionary PC platform that will provide enormous bandwidth between the CPU and the GPU,” said Randy Wilhelm, vice president of Intel’s Desktop Platforms Group and general manager, Client Platform Division.
PCI Express significantly increases bandwidth between the central processing unit (CPU) and GPU by enabling a balanced distribution of bandwidth to those applications that require it the most.
By using an innovative PCI Express (PCX) high-speed interconnect (HSI), a complex piece of networking technology that performs seamless, bi-directional interconnect protocol conversion at incredible speed lines, NVIDIA can transform its award-winning GeForce FX series into a full-family of PCI Express GPUs. NVIDIA is also ready with GeForce 6 series-based PCX GPUs.
The first PCI Express graphics solutions are currently shipping to leading add-in-card partners, OEMs, system builders and other partners. Retail release of PCI Express graphics cards are slated for this summer.
