Thomson, the global media technology and creative services company, will unveil its comprehensive digital rights and content management package NexGuard at NAB 2006. Produced by the Thomson Content Security team, the NexGuard suite of tools curtails piracy, which is a significant threat to the entertainment industry’s bottom line. NexGuard protects, traces and monitors digital content in the professional media environment from production to postproduction through distribution and display. Thomson Content Security will demonstrate NexGuard’s capabilities at NAB booth SU844.

NexGuard includes watermarking, encryption, controlled access and forensic data solutions that manage and secure the storage, transfer and viewing of digital content. This content includes production dailies, postproduction elements, digital intermediates, feature film and broadcast digital masters, digital cinema releases and DVD screeners. NexGuard also includes a content signature identification service that combats the illegal flow of entertainment titles on P2P networks.

“Because Thomson serves the media and entertainment industry, content management and security is as important to us as it is to our clients,” said Jean-Charles Hourcade, CTO, Thomson and co-head of the technology division. “By addressing the needs of the entire professional supply chain, we could develop solutions that are synergistic and efficient.”

Thomson’s Content Security team leveraged internal corporate research and development, the recent acquisition of Mediasec and Nextamp, as well as ongoing partnerships to produce NexGuard. Thomson is claiming a leadership role in content management and security solution for the professional environment as part of its ongoing efforts to support the transition to digital production, distribution and exhibition.

Thomson’s market for NexGuard includes the studios; manufacturers of media and entertainment hardware, including servers; companies implementing digital cinema; and large postproduction facilities that produce content for motion picture, television and other broadcast markets.
