MillimeterMPSE Announces 2004 Golden Reel Nominees

The Motion Picture Sound Editors (www.mpse.org) are proud to announce their 2004 Golden Reel nominees in 19 categories.
In feature film categories, The Aviator and Kill Bill, Vol. 2 both took nominations in all three major categories: Dialogue/ADR, Music, and Sound Effects/Foley.
Other nominees for Sound Editing in a Domestic Feature were The Bourne Supremacy, Collateral, The Day After Tomorrow, I, Robot, Million Dollar Baby, and Spider-Man 2.
For Sound Editing in a Foreign Feature (defined by where the sound editing was done), nominees were Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, King Arthur, Nicotina, Touching the Void, Troy, and A Very Long Engagement.
Sound Editing in an Animated Film nominees were The Incredibles, Kaenea: The Prophecy, The Polar Express, Shark Tale, Shrek 2, and Team America: World Police.
The Bourn Supremacy, Collateral, Passion of the Christ, and Ray each received two nominations.
Miramax and Warner Bros. each took a total of seven nominations; Disney earned six; Dreamworks took 5; Universal garnered four; Sony earned three; and Fox and Newmarket earned two. Focus, Lion's Gate, and MGM each earned one.
In television, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation scored nominations in all three categories, and the CSI franchise earned a total of seven nominations. All three CSI shows will be competing against each other in the Sound Effects Editing in TV Shortform category.
Cold Case, Lost, Sex and the City, and Six Feet Under each earned two nominations.
In TV Longform, Frankenstein, Meltdown, Spartacus and The Winning Season each received two nominations.
CBS earned nine nominations; HBO took seven nominations; ABC garnered five; Warner Television took five; USA and TNT each earned four. NBC took three; Nickelodeon earned two; and Fox took one.
In Student Film, all five nominees were international. Birthday Boy and Crawlspace were from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, Brand Spanking and Lloyd in the Corner were from the National Film & Television School in England, and The Sandman is from the Chopin Academy of Music in Poland.
"Once again, I am very proud that we have such a diverse group of nominees in both our film and television categories. We go out of our way to be as inclusive as possible with our categories and nominees, since so often the work of sound and music editors is overlooked," stated MPSE president David J. Bondelevitch. (Bondelevitch is currently recuperating at home after three weeks in intensive care following surgery on an infected lung.)
The MPSE is also announcing their presenters for their two special awards. Legendary sound editor and mixer Walter Murch will present the Inaugural Filmmaker's Award to George Lucas, and Supervising Sound Editor Richard Hymns will present the Career Achievement Award to Gary Rydstrom. All awards will be presented at the 52nd Annual Golden Reel Awards to be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
