HaiVision announces OSCAR H.264 MPEG-4 AVC video encoder/decoder

HaiVision Systems Inc. (Montreal, Canada) is pleased to announce the third platform within its H.264 MPEG-4 AVC product lineup – the hai200 series OSCAR. The OSCAR is an extremely compact device designed specifically for video streaming and IPTV applications. Supporting full resolution (SD or D1) encoding or decoding at up to 1.5 Mbps, the OSCAR delivers unmatched price/performance for network video.
The OSCAR supports MPEG-4 AVC H.264 baseline and enhanced profile with fully controllable resolution, frame rate, and bit rate from 64 kbps to 1.5 Mbps, thus tunable for virtually any bandwidth requirement. As well, both the encoder and decoder models include serial port access for centralized camera or display control. Measuring a mere 0.92” x 5.85” x 8.0” (24mm x 149mm x 202mm) and housed in a solid chassis with a locking power supply, HaiVision’s OSCAR is ideal for multiple camera encoding applications regardless of environment.
MPEG-4 AVC H.264 is the leading standard for all next generation video applications including transmission, broadcast, videoconferencing, storage servers, and video on demand systems. This new joint ITU/MPEG industry standard, which is 60% more efficient than MPEG-2, is destined for ubiquity and must not be confused with older MPEG-4 (part 2) implementations that typically do not support resolutions higher than SIF/CIF (or roughly ¼ full resolution).
The OSCAR is fully compatible with HaiVision’s high performance H.264 MPEG-4 AVC platforms, the hai1000 multi-channel codec for telepresence systems and the TASMAN for high performance single channel interactive and streaming systems.
The OSCAR encoder has a list price of US$2,995 and in now offered in an integration kit (encoder, decoder, and application programming interface) for systems developers before the end of December 2006. Volume production will begin in February 2007
