Extending the boundaries of workstation computing, HP introduced a low-cost workstation that brings unprecedented performance to the entry-level market.
Featuring the new Intel® Core™ 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processor and 975X Express chipset, the HP xw4400 Workstation is ideal for meeting the computing demands of engineers, designers, video editors and other power users – all at an affordable price.
“Our customers have an insatiable demand for performance – the xw4400 offers a performance breakthrough over previous system architectures,” said Jim Zafarana, vice president and worldwide marketing manager, Workstation Global Business Unit, HP. “The xw4400 boasts dual graphics capabilities, an internal USB port for secure software licensing, and leading acoustic levels, all with less power required at the plug.”
Expandability and reliability for a variety of users
The HP xw4400 Workstation is designed to deliver the performance and flexibility needed by mechanical computer-aided design engineers, architectural engineers, architects and other users in small and medium-size businesses, enterprises and original equipment manufacturers.
With starting prices below $1,000, the xw4400 comes loaded with Microsoft Windows® 32-bit or x64 and has a wide range of graphics, memory and storage options, including new serial-attached SCSI hard drives. The workstation also will be Windows Vista Capable™ at launch and will offer Red Hat Enterprise Linux later this fall.
The reliable, fully supported xw4400 also is available with a wide range of PCIe x 16 graphics cards tested and certified by independent software vendors. The cards offer higher performance for professional applications, better stability for improved work efficiency and faster, more knowledgeable support.
Also highly expandable, the xw4400 is designed to facilitate print and electronic design, 2D animation, web authoring, video editing, and corporate content creation. Its dual-core capabilities deliver the fast computational rendering times formerly found only in Intel Xeon® systems.

Versatile and powerful performance through innovation
The xw4400 features a versatile, convertible mini-tower chassis that gives users the option of using the compact workstation in a desk-side or desktop configuration. A tool-less chassis provides for easy service, upgrading and maintenance.
Additional product features include up to 8 gigabytes total memory capacity to enable manipulation of large data sets, which previously had to be split into subsets, along with 64-bit Extension Technology, which provides support for enormous virtual memory addressing and the capability to run 64-bit operating systems and applications. The xw4400 also includes several features to help keep data safe, including a lockable chassis, chassis intrusion detection and cable lock features.
To lower the total cost of ownership, HP works closely with leading independent software and hardware vendors to create advanced solutions to ensure easy deployment, management transitions and support throughout each product’s lifecycle. Like all HP products, the xw4400 is designed for minimal impact on the environment and compliant with the European Union’s Reduction of Hazardous Substances directive.
The xw4400 comes with a three-year limited warranty, which includes parts, labor and next business day on-site support. The xw4400 is expected to be available online, in major retail stores, through resellers or from HP direct in early August.
