Jul 31, 2006 12:55 PM
Iridas, the industry leader in uncompressed playback, will mark its fifth year in business with the dual launch of FrameCycler Professional 2006 and FrameCycler DDS 2006. Both products will be previewed at Siggraph. The original FrameCycler, introduced in 2001, was the world's first uncompressed playback application. With a raft of new features and capabilities, the 2006 versions will represent the most extensive FrameCycler upgrade to date.
FrameCycler 2006 offers a simplified interface and a new drag-and-drop timeline, including support for multiple sound tracks. Alongside industry-leading image analysis capabilities, new annotation tools, and a ReviewLink client for remote collaboration will be standard with every seat of FrameCycler. FrameCycler DDS 2006 will offer HD SDI out for broadcast quality review. A module adding stereoscopic playback capabilities will be available for all of the 2006 FrameCycler products.
Since its introduction in 2001, approximately 20,000 seats of FrameCycler have been sold. "Before FrameCycler there was basically no way to review uncompressed footage on a computer," saYS Lin Kayser, Iridas founder and CEO. "It was clear from day one that we were filling a critical gap in the VFX industry and it is no exaggeration to say that FrameCycler Professional established the market for uncompressed desktop playback." FrameCycler Digital Daily System (DDS) was launched in 2002, the first direct-from-disk playback application to run on commodity hardware. In 2004, FrameCycler became the first - and still the only - cross-platform playback software running on Windows, Mac and Linux.
"FrameCycler 2006 is the result of years of intensive dialog with leaders in VFX and postproduction" saYS Steve Crouch, Director of Iridas USA. "Today, facilities regard uncompressed playback as an essential part of their pipelines. No other solution runs on more platforms or can read and write more file formats: it's no surprise that the demand for FrameCycler just keeps growing."
