MediaRecall Digital Services announced the completion of a revolutionary stock footage website project for WGBH Boston. WGBH Stock Sales, the clip licensing arm of the premier PBS station, has now launched the new website www.wgbhstocksales.org.

“It is exciting that, for the first time, WGBH Stock Sales has a state-of-the-art, online platform to license WGBH’s video collection,” said Alison Smith, who heads WGBH Stock Sales.

Responsible for the design and creation of this ground-breaking website, MediaRecall built a site that, for the first time, allows quick and easy access to the vast WGBH collection of footage from award-winning primetime public television series including NOVA, NOVA scienceNOW, FRONTLINE, and American Experience, among many others. “The unique functionality and ease of use of the new WGBH Stock Sales website saves users valuable time and allows them to find, organize and license footage immediately,” said MediaRecall CEO, Robin T. Rutledge. “The WGBH Stock Sales site is an example of how online stock footage search and sales will work in the future. We expect other TV stations, cultural institutions, corporations and others holders of quality video archives to move toward online sales and we believe the WGBH website will be a model for their transition,”

“The new web design and functionality of this new website simplifies our workflow, and the technology lets us easily manage the thousands of available clips,” said Smith. “The whole project went very smoothly.

The elegant and streamlined website offers improved navigation and easy access to the best of WGBH programming. Features of the site include a category function which allows researchers easy browsing by the following topics: adventure/exploration, animals, animation, culture/society, health/medicine, history/recreations, industry/business, locations, nature, and science/technology. Users can easily create handy project clip folders to manage clips for any number of projects. Users can “drag and drop” clips into folders directly from the search results pages. Folders may be printed out, the contents emailed to co-workers or sent directly to WGBH archivists with questions or comments. Users may also choose to download watermarked clips for rough-cuts, and use a convenient cart to place orders.

MediaRecall’s revolutionary Digital Online Network Environment (DONE!), a complete online suite of video ingest and logging management tools, is now being beta tested by WGBH Stock Sales. DONE! dramatically speeds the ingest, logging and clip selection process.

CEO Rutledge said: “We are seeing an unprecedented demand for video conversion, particularly for Web use. That demand means we will now offer new resolutions and new, more competitive pricing models. Video content holders of all sizes are trying to figure out how best to “go digital” and start monetizing their content on the Web from VOD and from Mobile downloads. MediaRecall’s systems are designed to digitize and log large-scale video archives in a fraction of the current time and provide immediate monetizing options.”
