Da Vinci Systems announced that Shemaroo, one of India's leading entertainment companies based in Mumbai, has selected a Da Vinci 2K Plus color enhancement system and three Revival image restoration systems for Shemaroo's Studio Services division. The new Da Vinci image enhancement systems will be used for restoring 2K, 4K, and HD projects, and for digital intermediate (DI) work on commercials, theatrical productions, and video promotions.

"Shemaroo has one of the most advanced, well-equipped digital studios in all of India, and we selected Da Vinci to give our colorists the latest technological advancements to meet the challenges of today's film production and restoration," says Hemant Karani, vice president-Studio at Shemaroo. "Revival's advanced features such as Stabilization and deWarp will allow us to restore old films at various resolutions, as well as perform image cleanup and remastering."

For additional creativity and power in the Da Vinci 2K Plus, Shemaroo added a host of options, including PowerTier, DeFocus, and Toolbox2. These industry-leading tools will be used during 2K and HD color grading of music videos, commercials, and film promos. Shemaroo will also deploy the 2K Plus to restore numerous documentaries of Indian historical significance.

Shemaroo entered into the post-production realm in 2001, and continues to restore severely worn and damaged films, which often contain emulsion stains, deep scratches, pinholes, and watermarks. In the past, this type of damage had made traditional Telecine transfer on some projects nearly impossible, but now with the new Revival workstations, Shemaroo artists will have the tools they need to repair even severely damaged film negatives.

"At the same time Shemaroo will be creating new entertainment classics, its artists will also be restoring some Indian film-industry treasures, and our da Vinci tools are designed to meet their needs for both," says Peter Glassberg, vice president of Worldwide Sales and Service at da Vinci. "We look forward to providing Shemaroo with continued customer support to help them achieve their creative visions in both of these realms."

In addition to Shemaroo Studios, Shemaroo Video Pvt. also comprises a Home Video Division, offering a vast array of high-end video services and a catalog of more than 700 movie titles to customers, as well as a new film production division, Shemaroo Films. With the help of Cineom Broadcast India Pvt., the reseller and systems integrator for Shemaroo, the company's numerous products and services are recognized and deployed across the country.
