Feb 27, 2006 3:41 PM
Sonic Foundry has announced its new Mediasite Building Block for Blackboard, which integrates the award-winning Mediasite web communications system with the Blackboard Learning System, a widely-adopted course management system used by higher education, K-12, and corporate and government institutions across the U.S. and abroad.
Mediasite represents one of today's best tools in online learning across college campuses. It empowers higher education institutions to put their lectures online with the ease of a few mouse clicks, quickly and cost-effectively delivering lecture content with fully integrated audio, video and presentation materials. The Blackboard Learning System has powerful capabilities for managing courses and for tailoring instruction to meet student needs. Blackboard Building Blocks are third party applications which enable academic institutions to extend and customize their Blackboard application.
"Sonic Foundry's Mediasite, together with Blackboard's Learning System, offers a great integrated solution for accessing course content at any time," said Joanna Southerland, manager of Digital Media Productions at Florida State University. "As someone who has used both technologies, I can definitely see how the Mediasite Building Block for Blackboard will provide a richer learning experience for our students, while at the same time maintaining the ease and flexibility in creating lecture content that our instructors require."
With the Mediasite Building Block for Blackboard, any Mediasite-recorded lecture, presentation or meeting on campus, whether live or archived, can be published as learning content to the Blackboard Learning System. Students now have convenient, anytime access to their instructors' rich media presentations directly from their Blackboard-managed courses including fully-synchronized audio, video and presentation materials from PowerPoint and electronic whiteboards to document cameras or other presentation devices. Viewing mediasited lectures within Blackboard requires nothing more than the student's web browser no special downloads or plug-ins are needed.
The Mediasite Building Block for Blackboard is available in the Blackboard Building Blocks catalogue at blackboard.com/extend/b2/
