Sony Offers Free Online HD Media Seminars
Jan 16, 2007 12:20 PM
Sony Electronics’ Professional Media Group is offering a series of online seminars to help production professionals learn more about HD tape and discs, and how best to care for and handle that media for optimum archival life.
These sessions, available at no charge, are targeted toward cinematographers, directors, directors of photography, editors and other content creators working in TV and motion picture production.
The seminars are led by Wayne Desmond, Sony’s national training manager for professional media, and include two topics: Sony HD Media in Perspective and How to Protect Your Digital Assets.
Seminar one will include an overview of the professional HD formats and media currently used in broadcast production and digital cinematography including HDV, XDCAM HD, HDCAM, and HDCAM SR, as well as DVCPRO HD and D-5. The seminar will also cover continuing advancements in microprocessors, which have resulted in compression “virtually” impossible to discern when compared to an uncompressed source.
Seminar two complements the first seminar by providing an overview of the similarities and differences between film and magnetic media. Desmond will present guidelines on care and handling, and share data based on the more than 230 million Sony 1/2in. cassettes sold to date to demonstrate just how magnetic tape is withstanding the test of time.
