The Todd-AO family mourns the passing of Academy Award-winning Re-recording mixer Robert “Buzz” Knudson.

Knudson joined the Todd-AO company in 1960 and his talent as a mixer gained the attention of that era’s most prominent directors.

His extensive list of diverse credits included significant features like E.T., Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Exorcist, Ghost, Cabaret, A Woman Under the Influence, Into the Night, Scarface, Trading Places, The Blues Brothers, Witness, Flashdance, 1941 and A Star is Born, as well as TV shows like The Beverly Hillbillies, The Addams Family, Green Acres and Petticoat Junction.

Clients like Spielberg, Landis, Streisand, Beatty, Weir, Fosse, Friedkin, Cassavetes and Ashby were just a few of the names Buzz worked with over the years – great directors who sought him out to bring his artistry and creative instincts to their films.

Buzz served as President of Todd-AO from 1982-1990 and then served as Vice Chairman and as a consultant to our company until he retired in 2003.

During his long and distinguished career, Buzz garnered 10 Oscar nominations and took home three wins – for Cabaret, The Exorcist and E.T.

“One of the truly remarkable personalities of the Todd-AO organization has left us. He will be deeply missed,” said Robert C. Rosenthal, Chief Operating Officer of Ascent Media Creative Sound Services.
