This winter, the world's most technologically advanced postproduction facility will open at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif., featuring a uniquely designed, client-focused work environment.
Three years in development, planning and construction, and operated by Warner Bros. Studios' Postproduction Sound Department, the 52,000-square-foot Mission-style postproduction building will include two feature re-recording stages, an ADR stage with a spacious talent green room, 12 sound editorial/design suites, and 12 DVD audio mastering suites, all featuring Pro Tools HD.
"This remarkable new building will offer an ultra-modern atmosphere staffed by the most sought-after talent in the industry," says Kim Waugh, vice president, postproduction services, Warner Bros. Studio Facilities. "The future-of-the-art facility is designed to foster excellence in creativity with an emphasis on superior creature comforts and exceptional client services."
The two large feature re-recording stages will be equipped with the latest AMS/Neve DFC Gemini consoles. It is the first major motion picture re-recording facility to offer fully automated digital mixing desks that can support up to 1,000-channel paths, capable of 24 bit, 96K operation. In addition, six soundproof editorial rooms on each stage are fully networked to allow editors seamless support within the mixing environment.
In keeping with Warner Bros. Studio Facilities' commitment to providing a relaxed and intimate atmosphere for its clients, each re-recording stage will include a luxurious bathroom and shower, a comfortable filmmaker's lounge complete with a fully equipped kitchen and an extensive catering menu available upon request, and an outdoor patio with a quaint, Spanish-style fountain and fireplace. Clients will also have access to the new Warner Bros. Postproduction personal concierge service, the first of its kind in the industry.
In addition, the facility will house a spacious Pro Tools-based ADR stage and adjacent talent green room. Twelve sound editorial/design suites complement the first floor facilities. Each sound workstation connects directly to the Warner Bros. PPSnet, a private audio/video network that provides gigabit connectivity throughout the building for postproduction-related tasks. Wireless Internet access is also available.
The second floor of this new facility will feature 12 DVD audio mastering suites and a roomy client lounge with a full kitchen and outdoor balcony. Adjacent is Warner Bros. Postproduction Services' Emerging Media department which serves the interactive gaming community.
The building also contains 20,000 square feet of office space which will become the new home to the Warner Bros. Feature Post Production department. Located directly inside Gate 4 at Hollywood Way and Olive Avenue, the new building will feature open-air courtyards, fountains and arched doorways that complement the Studio's Spanish architecture.
"This extraordinary building re-confirms our commitment to the postproduction community," says Norm Barnett, senior vice president, postproduction services, Warner Bros. Studio Facilities. "We have certainly raised the bar, and we are thrilled to be able to offer the industry a facility of this caliber."
The new postproduction facility has been the catalyst for a major upgrade and remodeling of Warner Bros. Studios' existing postproduction facilities, including the installation of a ProControl Icon console into an existing large-format feature re-recording stage and the standardization of all re-recording consoles to AMS/Neve DFC technology.
When both the new building and the remodel are complete, Warner Bros. Studios' new post facilities will be the most comprehensive in the industry and will feature four large-format re-recording stages, six television re-recording stages, a scoring stage, a foley stage, screening rooms, three ADR stages, and two audio restoration stages supported by numerous sound and picture editorial suites. Warner Bros. Postproduction Services will continue to be a creative resource for not only Warner Bros. Studios television and film projects but also the industry at large.
