Any option to pack on extra record time when on location — whether you decide to carry more tapes in the case or put a larger hard drive in the camcorder — just makes sense. It's one less thing to worry about, because reshoots are just too expensive. That's a reason to consider Focus Enhancements' latest portable direct-to-edit (DTE) recorder, now with a 160GB drive. That's up to around 6.5 hours of continuous DVCPRO HD recording (720p24PN mode), 5.25 hours in 720p25/30PN mode, or 2.5 hours in full frame-rate 720p/1080i mode. (Panasonic's PN mode only writes active frames, so recording 24fps saves disk space compared to 30fps.)
