Flash Media Encoding Server
The battle for media-format domination of the Internet — a fight among Adobe, Microsoft, and others — is heating up. At IBC 2008, Adobe introduced Adobe Flash Media Encoding Server software to push further adoption of its already popular Flash format. While encoding might seem like the last part of the production cycle, the technique is increasingly central to the content preparation workflow for any company delivering video to the Web, the desktop, or mobile devices. For example, many NLEs now integrate Flash encoding into their dropdown menus. The app, which joins its other server-based products including Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 3, is designed to automate web-video delivery across multiple screens including Adobe Flash Player, mobile devices that employ Flash Lite, or to the desktop via Adobe Air.
