Combining ever-more-capable computer hardware and innovative software coding, Boinx Software offered a new twist in video production for the Web with the release of BoinxTV 1.0 in November. While the Munich, Germany-based company's statement that its live-production software turns your Mac into a “TV studio for the rest of us” might come off a bit overheated, it's still true that this app — which can control up to three cameras — makes it pretty straightforward to mix and record live video (up to 720p in QuickTime-compatible formats, HDV out of a camcorder, or HDMI if it comes in via a Blackmagic Design card or similar card) in realtime. Much like a standard-issue broadcast console, multiple layers of video, effects, and titles can be created and manipulated during the live recording, placed over the video, and sent out live as well as recorded.
