Known among producers as a great basic set-design and previz tool, Google SketchUp Pro uses 2D drawing techniques to facilitate the creation of 3D objects. Version 6 of the software lets you create 3D models from photographs; match existing models to background photos; render sketchy effects and fog; and mark your models with 3D text, logos, and watermarks. A styles palette gives you access to a collection of display settings, which you can save and share. The Pro version lets you export your models to CAD and other 3D formats. Using Google Earth, you can place your SketchUp models — using real-world coordinates — into Google's navigable model of our home planet.
